On July 22, 2026 Deputy Andrew Heckle observed a jeep on CR 40 with an obscured license plate. Deputy Heckle followed and the vehicle which made a wide turn onto Elkins Road, hugging the left shoulder. During the turn the driver threw an object out of the driver’s side window onto the grassy shoulder.
Deputy Heckle conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Walter Stancil (11/23/67) of Inglis. Deputy Heckle was assisted by Deputy Brooke Shutterly who found the object thrown from the vehicle and identified a substance inside the plastic baggie as methamphetamines. By Florida law, possession of more than 14 grams of methamphetamine is considered trafficking. The weight of the recovered methamphetamines was 14.3 grams.
Stancil was arrested and transported to the Levy County Detention Center. He was charged with possession of trafficking amounts of methamphetamines, possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with/or attempting to destroy evidence. His bond was set at $79,000.00.
