On June 15, 2026 Officers with the Cedar Key Police Department requested assistance from Levy County Sheriff’s Office. CKPD officers reported a Cedar Key man fled the scene of a felony battery investigation. Deputies Kyle Shultz and Andrew Heckle responded to assist officers with Cedar Key Police Department. They learned Travis Rains fled the scene of a felony battery and was possibly armed with knives and a hatchet. K-9 Deputy Dakota Dowling and his partner Ellzey responded and immediately began to track Rains. K-9 Ellzey apprehended Rains hiding a short distance away. Rains was arrested by Cedar Key Police Department and taken to the Levy County Detention Center.
