Deputy Invovled Shooting

Sep 8, 2026

On September 8, 2026, a Levy County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle whose registered owner had an active felony warrant out of Pinellas County.

The driver initially stopped but fled when the deputy ordered him to exit the vehicle. The deputy pursued the vehicle into Marion County, where the driver stopped near the 23,200 block of West Highway 40 and fled into a wooded area on foot.

During the foot pursuit, the driver pointed a firearm at the deputy, who then discharged their firearm, striking the driver.

The driver was transported to a hospital for treatment. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the deputy-involved shooting.
