On October 31st, 2026 at Levy County Sheriff’s Office obtained an arrest warrant for Sean Douglas Edwards on three counts of Aggravated Assault with a firearm. Edwards had pointed a shotgun at the victim and the victim’s children. Deputies also obtained a search warrant for Edwards’s residence. Deputies did not execute either warrant after conducting an in depth threat assessment on Edwards. Edwards had utilized a social media platform to posts videos threatening to kill law enforcement, his neighbors and government officials. In all of Edwards’ videos, his firearms were within arm’s reach. Deputies were reluctant to execute the arrest warrant and the search warrant at Edwards’ residence because of the potential risk to his 3 year old son who lived in the residence, along with Edwards’ girlfriend. Deputies also contacted federal law enforcement agencies to report Edwards’ threats to kill the president of the United States.
On November 6th, 2026 Detectives, through surveillance, learned that Edwards had left his residence. At approximately 12:45 hours the Levy County Sheriff’s Office communications center also received phone calls reporting Edwards walking near the intersection of County Road 337 and NE 120th Street carrying a shotgun.
Deputies and detectives responded and observed Edwards standing near the intersection. LCSO personnel observed that Edwards was armed with at least one firearm. They confronted Edwards at gunpoint and demanded he surrender. Edwards refused to surrender and threatened the deputies with his firearm. Deputies fired at Edwards. He was struck by multiple rounds and was ultimately declared deceased at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
Thereafter, Detectives executed the search warrant at Edwards’ residence. The search uncovered “Molotov cocktails” in the residence. Detectives learned that Edwards had made threats to blow up his neighborhood. This coincides with videos Edwards had posted talking about his neighbors working for the federal government and that he had “green lit” the entire neighborhood. The statements were interpreted to mean Edwards planned to target the neighborhood with explosives and or firearms.
Sheriff McCallum requested FDLE Agents from the Jacksonville Regional Operations Center respond to conduct an independent investigation of the shooting. The investigation required the closure of the intersection for an extended time. The investigation is continuing at this time and additional updates will be provided as the details become available.
