At approximately 2:49 a.m. on August 24, 2026 Levy County Deputy K. Richetti stopped a white male walking in the 9700 block NE 105 Avenue for a pedestrian violation. This area of Bronson does not typically see much pedestrian traffic and is known to be a high crime area. The male was dressed in only jeans and shoes and was sweating profusely.
This individual attempted to walk away from Deputy Richetti numerous times during the initial contact, despite her direct orders to stop. The male also refused to identify himself and began arguing with Deputy Richetti, stating he knew the law. Deputy Richetti attempted to detain and handcuff him when he fled on foot.
Deputy Richetti gave chase and during this she fired two rounds from her agency issued firearm. The male did not appear to be hit and continued to run. Supervisors arrived on scene, secured the location and set a perimeter. Additional units arrived as well as K-9 units from the Florida Department of Corrections to aid in locating the fleeing subject. The identity of the individual was learned through a tip after his picture was posted on social media.
Sheriff McCallum asked the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) to complete an independent investigation based upon the fact that a deputy discharged a firearm during the performance of their official duty. The policy of the Levy County Sheriff’s Office is to conduct an internal investigation at the conclusion of the FDLE investigation. As per our policy Deputy Richetti was placed on administrative leave until these investigations are completed.
The male subject, identified as Mason Clifton (6/27/2001) who lists an Archer address, was apprehended at approximately 12:15 p.m. today. He was found hiding in a shed not far from the incident location. He has been charged with resisting arrest and booked into the Levy County Detention Center pending his first appearance.
