Barricaded Suspect Apprehended Peacefully

On July 28, 2026 Deputies responded to a report of an aggravated assault with a firearm in the 13000 block of NW 82 Court, in the Manatee Farms subdivision west of Chiefland. Deputies spoke to the victim who said as he was driving by he stopped briefly in front of a home to speak to a maintenance worker at the edge of the road. The owner of the home where he stopped, which is located at 13150 NW 82 Court, came outside and started yelling at him as he approached. The victim stated the home owner, whom he knew as Terry, yelled at him to leave as he pulled a handgun from his waistband and pointed at him. The victim immediately fled the area.

Deputies conducted interviews with the victim and the maintenance worker, and then attempted to contact “Terry.” Terry, identified as Terry Cox (12/17/58), had retreated inside of his home. Terry would not exit and barricaded himself inside.

The Levy County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Response Unit (TRU) was activated and responded to the scene. Negotiators worked diligently for several hours communicating with Terry and were able to successfully convince him to surrender peacefully. Detectives obtained a search warrant and recovered the firearm used from inside Terry’s home.

Terry Cox was taken into custody and was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm. He is being held in the Levy County Detention Center on a $50,000.00 bond.
