Lieutenant James Anderson was in the Fanning Annex on NW 167 Place conducting a follow up investigation on an unrelated case. Levy County 911 Telecommunicators broadcast by radio a burglary in progress call occurring on the next street over. Lieutenant Anderson immediately responded.

As he arrived on scene the 911 caller was standing in the driveway pointing at the home. Lieutenant Anderson saw a person on the porch that, upon sight of him, fled inside the home. Lieutenant Anderson gave pursuit. He witnessed the unknown subject flee from the back of the home and pursued him over several fences, ultimately losing sight of him in a heavily wooded lot.

As expected, the cavalry arrived and surrounded the area. The suspect was sighted several times. He was ordered to surrender but continued to flee. He was ultimately apprehended by Detective Ryan Sullivan after a short foot pursuit. The suspect was identified as Michael Andrew Calloway (6/9/78) of Fanning Springs.

The investigation determined the owners of this home had surveillance cameras that alerted them to Calloway’s presence inside the home. The owner arrived and heard loud banging coming from inside the home. He called 911 and confronted Calloway before law enforcement’s arrival. Calloway attempted to flee and threatened to cut the owner who was blocking his path. The owner, afraid he was about to be cut, was retreating into the yard when Lieutenant Anderson arrived.

Calloway has been charged with burglary of a dwelling, burglary with assault or battery, resisting arrest and petit theft. Detectives collected evidence at the scene, items that were discarded by Calloway during the foot pursuit and items still on his person. This, coupled with the positive identification made by the victim and quick apprehension of the suspect allowed this potentially volatile offender to be taken off the streets ensuring the safety of the residents in this subdivision.
